Welcome !

What is this page? This page contains information for K-O teachers and students who want to set up web pages on the Kingswood-Oxford School Web Server.

What's a Web Server? A Web Server is a computer attached to the Internet that runs software allowing users to set up (publish) web pages that others can see (visit).

What's it called? Our Web Server is located on the Internet at wyvern.k-o.org.
Please note this is a different machine and location from the official School Site or the official Technology Department Site.   Physically, it is a rack mounted, dual processor, Dell PowerEdge running Windows 2003 Server IIS 6 located in the IT department in Nicholson.

Who has pages on this server? Some of the teachers who have web pages on this server are: Ms. Scig, Ms. TomkielMs. Bernatchez, Mrs. Costantini, Ms. Deeter, Mr. Follansbee, Mr. Chiarappa and IT

How can I use this Server? You need to have an account created so you can access the Server and upload your pages. Call or e-mail me (Russ) saying you want a web page account set up - (Remember this is a different account from your network account and your FirstClass account). You'll also need some kind of web page editor software to help you create pages. All school PCs have the Note Tab Light editor installed and we will upgrade you to the Pro version if you want to do more, but most people find it easiest to create a document in Word and then use the 'save as a web page' function. You'll also need an FTP program to move your finished pages from your computer to the Server. We have installed WS_FTP LE on all school computers for this. This is a simple program and there's even a tutorial in the demo course section of K-O Online.

What's my account info? After you contact me, an account and directory will be set up for you on the Web Server. Your account name and password will be made the same as your network info so you can set up your FTP client.

How do I set up my FTP client program? Has your account on the web server been set up? To upload your page files to your directory on the Web Server you will have to configure your FTP client (the program that moves your files to the server) with the following information:
Label/Profile Name: - A name to identify the server - use Wyvern or wyvern.k-o.org
FTP Host/Hostname Address - wyvern.k-o.org
Host Type: Automatic Detect
FTP Site User Name/User ID: - k-o\lastname.f (where f=your first initial)
FTP Site Password - (This is set up so it is the same as your K-O network login password)
FTP Site Connection Port - 21
Login - Normal.

Testing When you successfully login the first time your directory will be blank. Remember to install your default home page as default.htm or index.htm. If you need help call me (Russ) at 2431 and I'll come to your office and help you.
